FlatFrog FAQ

What is Planar Scatter Detection (PSD)?
Planar Scatter Detection is the name of FlatFrog's patented technology, bringing true multi-touch functionality to large and flat screens. It is an optical in-glass technology with unprecedented performance through advanced opto-mechanics and signal processing.

What does FlatFrog mean by true multi-touch?
True multi-touch by FlatFrog's standards is 20+ simultaneous touches, enabling many users to simultaneously use the screen. FlatFrog's technology can also handle object size recognition and effortless drags and pinches.

Does the system need calibration?
No, all FlatFrog screens are calibrated before delivery, which minimizes maintenance and support costs for the end-user.

Does ambient light affect the performance?
No, FlatFrog's screens can be optimized for any light conditions from dark rooms to daylight to special conditions such as strobes in a bar or casino environment.

How "real" does it feel?
FlatFrog's technology offers very real and natural gesture input, where all touches and gestures are registered, without delays or disturbances. This is made possible by very low latency and high refresh rates (above 100 Hz).

Do stains or scratches on the screen affect performance?
No. The completely flush 3,3 mm non-hardened glass surface offers good durability and easy cleaning. If this glass is scratched however, the filtering system recognizes the disturbance and immediately filters it out, to maintain maximum performance.

Can a FlatFrog screen be mounted on the wall or in a table?
Yes. Contrary to other multi-touch solutions on the market, FlatFrog's screens are flat and can be mounted flush in for example a dining table while still offering legroom. For the same reason, a screen can be mounted or built into a wall, like a normal flat screen TV.

Will the system recognize touches from a gloved hand or an object?
Yes, fingers, gloved fingers and soft stylus can all be used.

What screen sizes are available?
Our first product is the 32" FlatFrog Multitouch 3200. But larger and smaller sizes are in the pipeline, and all sizes are possible from 3" to 100" and upward. The smaller sizes sport an even slimmer implementation that allow for integration into laptops, AIOs or cockpits with strict space constraints.

Does FlatFrog's technology work with Windows 7?

Of course. FlatFrog will be Windows 7 certified. The open API facilitates software development on any platform; Windows, Linux or OS X. It also supports TUIO out of the box, leading to rapid development and easy integration of solutions.
